Dear Eighth grade Parents and Guardians:
Here's a recap of September events and happenings:
The eighth grade was awarded the Spirit Trophy by Mrs. O'Toole for their outstanding show of school spirit at the Back to School Bash!
Thanks to all who came out for Parent Night. I hope I was able to answer some of your questions about the coming year. Students whose parents came that night received a little reward. They owe you!
Our soccer season began with 10 of our 8th graders stepping up to carry on the soccer tradition here at St. Walter. I want to thank them for putting themselves out there...always looks good on those high school and scholarship applications.
We had a very successful High School Day on September 22. Students got lots of information and asked thoughtful questions. This coming Friday, Oct. 7 and Monday, Oct. 10 are big Shadow Days at the high schools. Please register now if you have not done so.
Several eighth graders represented the class and took on leadership roles at the first family mass on September 25th. They did the readings and petitions, brought up the gifts, handed out bulletins, and took up the collection. Several parents were also in attendance. Thanks for making the effort. Maybe more of you can make it next time.
The eighth graders "knocked their socks off" by bringing 394 pairs of socks for Sock-it to-Me Day!!! Mrs. C was moved to tears by their (and your) generosity. Once again Mark led the way with over 100 pairs, but they rest of the class really rose to the challenge. I am proud of them. Oh, and we got to keep the Spirit Trophy!!!
By now you have probably heard about their performance at Grandparent's Day. Out came Mrs. Harris' costume box and the eighth graders were transformed into 'seniors' for the annual favorite. They got lots of laughs and really cut a rug dancing to "Grandparent's Day" (in the style of Y.M.C.A.) . Thanks to all who sent treats or helped out that day.
